1999 Dodge Dakota Amplifier Upgrade in Clairemont, CA
Even in 2026, plenty of 1999 Dodge Dakotas are still doing daily driver duty. The problem on this one was the audio, which was running an older install that had clearly seen better days. The owner had us come out to Clairemont to work on the truck with the interior already stripped out, which gave us a clean slate to run the wiring the right way.
The client supplied the head unit, a Wolfbox G900 mirror dash camera, and the sound-deadening material, and we handled everything else. We installed his Continental unit up front, then set up an Alpine Optim8 amplifier paired with Audiofrog speakers, a set of GS42 coaxials in the rear and the G60S components up front, all wired through the proper harnesses. With the interior out, it really simplified the wiring runs so that everything could tuck in cleanly before the interior goes back together.
Wiring-wise, we ran real OFC copper from a T-Spec amp kit for the power side plus 16-gauge OFC for the speakers (and a 12 AWG whip for the future sub), with a fully waterproof MINI ANL fuse holder protecting everything at the battery. We sealed the 6.5-inch speakers with acoustic rings and used what was left of the CLD on the door skins and door panels so the midbass actually lands in the cabin instead of rattling around loose in the doors.
When it was all said and done, that Dakota went from a tired old install to a system that sounds the way a truck should: clean, clear, and loud when you want it.
